The new AMD athlon quad core range from AMD fits the new socket FM1. The quad core 2.6ghz does not fit am2, am2+ or am3 motherboards. You need the new AMD motherboards which have the socket interface of FM1. The FM1 socket for the new AMD processors came out in late 2011 so if you are unsure if you have check your AMD manual or if its pre 2011 then you may need to upgrade. The deisgn of the AMD 631 FM1 cpu means it runs cooler and faster than previous AMD cpu's and has the advantage of having the graphics embedded onto the chip rather than on the motherboard.
